How We Work

Projects@efolkMusic

To grow and strengthen as a community, our supporters are helping us maintain our public services and develop new programs. Please help us by providing assistance in any of the areas below- and let us know if you have ideas for other projects.

efolkMusic is a tax-exempt 501(3)(c) organization. These ongoing activities are seeking sponsorship:

  • Folk-Zine”, a monthly online magazine containing features and information about folk music and musicians (contemporary and historical), educational columns, reviews and event calendars. Projected budget: $5000 for initial development, $3000 yearly maintainance.
  • Tune-shop”, an archive of solo and duet recordings of traditional fiddle music by respected musicians, with streaming audio and PDF transcriptions of the tunes. Projected budget: $5000 for initial development, $2000 yearly maintainance.
  • An interactive database of Folk Festivals and House Concerts, with information about gatherings in the US and Canada. Projected budget: $3000 for initial development, $1000 yearly maintainance.
  • An interactive database of Folk Radio Shows containing schedules and information about available broadcasts, searchable by genre and location. Projected budget: $3000 for initial development, $1000 yearly maintainance.
  • Artist support grants. Donors can sponsor artists on the site, $300 donation supports 10 artists for one year.
  • Archival Development: We are looking for a major grant for creation of a digital archive to house and make publically available significant and important recordings currently out of print. Please write for more information.

The above current activities further our exempt purpose to operate “programs designed to inform and educate the public about folk music, folk music artists, performances, festivals, radio play; provide archival facilities for preserving and disseminating folk music.”

Projects Under Development

The following activities are also needing sponsorship:

  • Emerging Artist Recording Grants to provide financial aid for new artists with studio and production costs. (This activity will be coordinated by Elizabeth Valsing, and will begin when funding becomes available.)
  • Concert and Festival Grants to provide financial aid for new and established events. (This activity will be coordinated by Chris Frank, and will begin when funding becomes available.)
  • Field Recording Grants to provide financial aid and support for mobile recording of festival performances and archival documentation of significant artists. (This activity will be coordinated by Chris Frank, and will begin when funding becomes available.)
  • Creation of a “mirror” website designed specifically for the visually impaired.

We hope that you'll want to have the personal satisfaction of knowing you have directly contributed to this effort.

Donating online is an easy way to make an immediate impact. And, with your ongoing support, efolkMusic can continue to keep the music playing. Thank you.
